You should think about self publishing on Amazon or using other outlets. I’m currently in the midst of putting a short story collection together, and once I’m done I’m going to publish them as an E-book as it seems the easiest way to get my work out there. Sure, you might have to do all the promoting yourself and if you want hardcover copies of your work you’re going to have to find a service to do that for you, but it’s probably the best option as a young writer and as someone trying to get their foot in the publishing game. Hope it all works out for you!

Thanks so much for the advice!! I was looking into doing that, but have heard such mixed reviews of self publishing! Have you self published before?

No I haven’t, but I’ve done a lot of research lately and have found that traditional publishing isn’t all that great for upcoming writers as the marketing they provide and the royalties you receive are far less than if you self publish because you’re an unproven commodity along with you’re book. For me I just think it would be better to create an audience for myself at first before possibly in the future sending my work out to publishers so that I can at least show them that I’ve had success in selling books. I think it is harder to get seen with self-publishing as there are so many e-books but as long as the quality is good and you market well I believe any book can become successful. That’s just my two cents though.

Thanks!! That’s honestly refreshing to hear. I’ve seen a lot of people turn their noses up at self publishing, but I agree – if the quality is good, people will read it. 🙂

No worries! And if you do end up self publishing send me the link whenever you get the chance, I would love to read more of your work.
